Weekly Reports

Late, late, late

Being sick and busy has put me behind again! Let’s do an abbreviated recap:

Bad:

  • Flavor, a delightful series about chefs in a chef-oriented culture is ending for a while. Seems like they’re thinking of going straight to trade? Unclear.
  • Jason Aaron still makes good comics but works with almost no women. My hopes from that fill-in Avenger issue are dashed.
  • I missed it the week it came out, but everyone loved X-men Black: Mojo because it was basically a takedown of douchebag comicgate culture, but the creative team was still a sausage party, so not exactly progress.

Good:

  • Exorsisters #1 came out! A fun series about the demonic arts with art by Giséle Lagacé whose style blends Rumiko Takahashi and Dan DeCarlo into something sexier than either. Her many webcomics are also great and NSFW.
  • Unstoppable Wasp #1 came out! Everyone’s favorite Pym is back with her full supporting cast and Gurihiru on art! 60 issues and 5 annuals please.
  • Shuri #1 came out! Nnedi Okorafor has been killing it on her previous Marve work and in their first issue she’s perfectly blending Shuri’s comics history with her movie personality.

New comics tomorrow? It never ends.
