May 23 2018 Pull List Gender Imbalance Report

It’s time for my comics demographics round-up! Usual caveats: counting men/women+other for each book and totals! My research is sloppy!

We finally have a person who uses they/them pronouns this week, so shout out to them. Gender assignment by name/pic/what I can find.

It’s a new week and things are once again TERRIBLE. I bought 26 comics, intentionally looking for books with women and it’s awful out there.

We are looking at people credited as writer, penciller, inker, colorist or letterer, no covers, no backup shorts, no editors.

This week, of 26 total, 14 were exclusively created by men. That’s 58 men who worked only with men to make comics. Quite the sausage party!

Of the 12 books that had ANY women, 10 had only 1 woman, 1 had 3, 1 had 4 and our non-binary friend makes 5. 18 total!

How many men worked on those 12 books? 56! What the hell!? That brings our total to 114 to 18. Get your shit together, comics!

The two books with multiple women were Lumberjanes (no men) and Black Panther: Long Live the King which still had room for 7 men!

The Star Wars Annual had 7 men with no women, but Iron Man 600 had 17 (SEVENTEEN!) men and Rachelle Rosenberg all by herself. (She’s great!)

I’d love to slice and dice it by race/ethnicity/country of origin, but just “dude/not dude” is hard enough!

Anyway, weekly reminder: get your shit together comics! Marvel sold me 10 books with no women, 4 with 1 woman, and Black Panther TPB with 3.
